The underground parking garage gates at the Old State Capitol State Historic Site are now fully automated with a 20-dollar reduction in the monthly parking cost to 65 dollars.
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources said daily parking is not available, although that option may eventually return.
IDNR suggested the reduced fee could encourage more downtown employees to use the garage to free up street parking for customers and visitors.
Future improvements for the underground garage include renovation of an elevator and construction of an accessibility ramp.
