Unemployment in Illinois dropped slightly from July to August according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Illinois Department of Employment Security.
The state’s jobless rate last month of 4.7 percent was two-tenths of a percentage point lower than July and four-tenths of a percentage point higher than August 2025.
The total number of nonfarm jobs decreased by about 4,100 over the month.
